When Everybody is Listening...

This past month, Tender got wind of an interview that was conducted with two comedians and one comedy critic following the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The three women were asked about their views on feminism and being a female in the industry, but the conversation quickly spiraled into what many have called an offensive and insensitive rant promoting the sexualisation and objectification of women. The three women went on to blame young women who may change their mind ‘too late’ and joke that you have to ‘have the right look’ to be a victim of rape.

Tender's event at The Tricycle Theatre

On Wednesday, at The Tricycle Theatre in Kilburn, we were treated to two incredible performances from young people. First, the Limelight theatre group, consisting of teens aged 12-16, performed a play about a class of pupils at school after a weekend party. As the details of what happened at the party are gradually revealed to us, the performers managed to keep us laughing whilst never losing sight of the real implications of the events being depicted.

Ten words for Tender - Call for Writers

Introducing our literature event to celebrate Ten for Tender! This summer, we are beginning a project called ‘Ten words for Tender’. We’re asking people to donate ‘ten word love stories’. The idea, which was developed by our youth board, comes from a six word novel attributed to Ernest Hemingway “For sale, baby shoes, never worn.”

An Opportunity Missed - New Clause 20

On June 11th, the House of Commons debated and voted on amendments to the Children and Families Bill. One of these amendments was New Clause 20, which would make it a statutory requirement for schools to educate children about sex and relationships. It was an opportunity for the government to increase their efforts against issues such as domestic violence and the so-called “rape culture” which some say is established amongst young people.

My Best Friend: The First 10K

On Bank Holiday Monday May 27th ( THE ONLY SUNNY DAY OF THE YEAR SO FAR.....) Sophie ran the BUPA 10k in central London. I sweated hard at the sidelines and saw Mo Farah, several men dressed as toilets, a crocodile and a man in a thong (can't bear to think about the chaffing!). And then Soph powered past looking confident and cool. Her time was 54 minutes and 46 seconds. There were 11,000 runners and Sophie came in 873rd Female and 97th in her age group. Fantastic!
