Education and arts charity Tender and the Schools Consent Project have created a new resource to support the launch of NT Live’s Inter Alia

Starring Rosamund Pike and written by Prima Facie’s Suzie Miller, theatre sensation Inter Alia explores the dangers of online misogyny and the challenges of engaging children and young people in these critical issues. Inter Alia will be broadcast live from the National Theatre this evening (Thursday 4th September), followed by a season of Encore showings in cinemas nationwide.

Designed by specialists in healthy relationships and consent education, the free resource seeks to support parents, teachers and carers in harnessing the themes of Inter Alia to explore the dangers of online content with children and young people. As the play reaches a wide range of new audiences through its cinema season, this resource will guide adults with the knowledge and understanding to discuss themes like consent and misogyny with young people, and challenge any potentially harmful attitudes.

Tender harnesses the power or drama and creativity to prevent domestic abuse and sexual violence. Working across schools, youth settings and specialist provision, Tender supports children and young people to recognise early signs of abuse, access the right help should they need it, and build healthy relationship skills.

The Schools Consent Project is a charity delivering comprehensive, lawyer-led workshops on consent and the law in UK schools.

Susie McDonald MBE, CEO of Tender, said:
‘We are delighted to support the NT Live launch of Inter Alia with this expert resource. This powerful production demonstrates the dangers young people face, online and in real life, and we can’t wait for it to reach many more audiences through its nationwide broadcast.

‘For anyone caring for, or working with, young people, it’s essential to explore these issues safely. Created with specialists at the Schools Consent Project, our resource supports adults to understand the key topics, explore them with young people and challenge any harmful attitudes or beliefs that arise in these conversations.

‘Tender’s work is rooted in the power of drama to prevent abuse in young people’s lives. We hope our collaboration with Inter Alia will have a significant impact on audiences throughout the UK.’

Monica Bhogal, Director of the Schools Consent Project, said:
‘Inter Alia captures — with clarity and heart — the urgent need for meaningful, supportive and honest conversations between adults and young people. We’re thrilled to have co-created this resource for everyone raising, teaching or supporting young people, to help explore the play’s themes together.

‘The play’s subject matter is very much at the heart of the formative conversations we have in classrooms every day. When grounded in legal principles, we see how these conversations don’t just teach rules; they encourage critical thinking, ethical behaviours and, ultimately, create a safer, kinder world. The resulting impact we can all have on young lives can’t be underestimated.

‘Inter Alia will undoubtedly leave a powerful legacy about the importance of consent education and, as the production reaches wider audiences, we are delighted that our collaboration will ensure this message endures.’

About the Schools Consent Project
The Schools Consent Project is a charity delivering comprehensive, lawyer-led workshops on consent and the law in UK schools. Through our dynamic, interactive workshops we explain the role of the law in providing a clear framework for understanding rights and responsibilities, while building the skills to check for, communicate and respect boundaries. By normalising these conversations about consent and encouraging safe, healthy interactions we reduce the likelihood of young people experiencing – or perpetrating – sexual harm. Visit: www.schoolsconsentproject.com/
