This October, Tender will be taking part in the Big Give Women and Girls Match Fund campaign!
The campaign supports charities committed to serving women and girls by tackling gender inequality, and putting an end to discrimination.
From Thursday 10th – Thursday 17th October, the Big Give will double donations made to Tender up to £10,000 via their Champion funding. This includes some of the biggest names in philanthropy, such as The Julia Rausing Trust.
With your support, we can raise up to £20,000 and support more girls and young women to build healthy relationship skills.
‘Life becomes meaningful’
We asked a group of young people in one of Tender’s specialist projects – why do people want relationship? They told us: ‘Life becomes meaningful.’
Relationships can be one of the most important things in our lives. It’s how we can find acceptance, companionship and, as these young people said, meaning.
It’s devastating when a relationship is abusive. It’s absolutely essential for young people to have the tools to recognise the early warning signs of an unhealthy relationship, so they can seek support before these behaviours escalate.
Supporting girls and young women
Through the Big Give Women and Girls campaign, we aim to empower girls and young women from single gender alternative provisions and youth settings with healthy relationships skills.
Girls and young women in these settings are at the highest risk of all the young people whom we work with. More than four out of five (81%) have special educational needs (CfSJ, 2020), and the risk of experiencing domestic or sexual violence can be two to three times higher for neurodivergent and disabled women and girls (ONS, 2021).
They are also part of the age group most likely to experience an abusive relationship (16-19 years old, ONS, 2023).
Our projects
Our specialist 6-week projects will support up to 50 girls and young women to recognise the early warning signs of abuse, seek support if they encounter it, and build healthy, respectful relationships.
We will also train up to 50 staff at these settings in domestic abuse awareness and how it can manifest in young women’s lives.
This critical work will help more girls and young women gain the knowledge, skills and awareness to recognise abuse if they encounter it, the confidence to seek help, and the informed support of trained setting staff.
Your donation
You can help make these projects a reality.
From 12 noon on Thursday 10th October until 12 noon on Thursday 17th of October, your donation to Tender via the Big Give will be automatically doubled up to the value of £10,000 (thus reaching £20,000 overall). Twice the donation, twice the difference you will make.
Together, we can support young women and girls to build happy, healthy relationships.
