Bradford primary school Beckfoot Heaton has been recognised for its commitment to promoting, healthy, equal and respectful relationships by education charity Tender.
Beckfoot Heaton was awarded Tender’s flagship RE:SET Healthy Relationship Champion Setting Award at a celebration event on Monday 20th January. At a special ceremony attended by staff and students, Headteacher Zoe Mawson accepted the award from acclaimed writer, rapper, world record breaking human beatboxer and Tender supporter, Testament.
Active in more than 65 UK schools, RE:SET is a long term, whole school programme which supports schools to embed positive attitudes and behaviours based on equality and compassion. Working alongside their Tender Mentor, Angharad Turner-Fielder, Beckfoot Heaton have effectively engaged staff, students and parents/carers to achieve sustainable change.
Testament commented:
‘I am so honoured to be part of celebrating those who make a difference in young people’s lives. It inspires all of us to think carefully about who we want to be and how we treat others.’
Angharad Turner-Fielder, Programme Manager for Tender North, said:
‘What an exciting day! We’re so proud of all the staff and students at Beckfoot Heaton for their commitment and enthusiasm for this important work.
‘It’s never been more crucial to empower children and young people with the tools to challenge harmful attitudes and build healthy friendships. Together with Beckfoot Heaton’s passionate team, we have supported every level of the school community, embedding positive values that can last a lifetime.’
Zoe Mawson, Headteacher of Beckfoot Heaton, said:
‘It’s never too early to set our young people on the path to respect, compassion and equality. Tender’s RE:SET programme works at all levels to deliver lasting positive change.
‘Our young ambassadors have been empowered to speak up when they see inequality or unkindness, whilst our staff and parents have the tools to raise and explore these issues effectively. We’re so excited to celebrate this award.’
‘We were delighted to be joined by Testament. As an artist and performer, he recognises the power of creativity in addressing difficult issues and building positive values, and we’re so grateful for his support.’
