Bradford secondary school Carlton Bolling has been recognised for its commitment to promoting healthy, equal and respectful relationships by education charity Tender.
The Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ school has become the first school in West Yorkshire to be recognised with the RE:SET Healthy Relationship Champion Setting Award. Staff and students celebrated the achievement at a celebration event on Wednesday 24th April attended by Tender Ambassador Amy-Leigh Hickman, star of Netflix series You and Channel 4 drama Ackley Bridge.
Active in more than 65 UK schools, Tender’s Relationship Education Schools Equality Toolkit (RE:SET) is a long term, whole school programme which supports schools to embed positive attitudes and behaviours based on equality and compassion that do not tolerate misogyny or abuse. Working alongside their Tender Mentor, Carlton Bolling have effectively engaged staff, students and parents/carers to achieve sustainable change.
Amy-Leigh also popped into Beckfoot Heaton Primary School & Nursery to check out their latest Tender workshop. Beckfoot Heaton is the latest school to join our RE:SET programme in the North of England.
Tender Ambassador and actress, Amy-Leigh Hickman said:
‘I’m thrilled to join Carlton Bolling to celebrate this remarkable achievement. Preventing domestic abuse and sexual violence can seem an insurmountable task, yet working with Tender, I’ve seen how drama and creativity can make a real difference. I want to congratulate Carlton Bolling for their effort and dedication to this cause, and the positive impact it’s had on their school and beyond.’
Angharad Turner-Fielder, Programme Manager for Tender North said:
‘We are so proud of all the staff and students at Carlton Bolling for their immense commitment and enthusiasm for the RE:SET project. Recognising the vital importance of relationships education, they have embraced Tender’s approach to achieve lasting impact throughout the whole school and we look forward to collaborating with them for many years to come.’
Mohammed Azum, Head Teacher at Carlton Bolling said:
‘The RE:SET Programme has exceeded expectations. The framework for measurement has been useful but I have been particularly impressed by how powerful the work with the young ambassadors has been. They have been empowered to stand up against misogyny and become champions for equality. It has been life changing, we are setting children up to become model citizens.’
The RE:SET project at Carlton Bolling was made possible with funding from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority Mayor’s Safer Communities Fund.
