Healthy Relationships for secondary schools

Embark on a transformative two-day journey with your students. Our expert facilitators will guide them through activities which support them to build healthy relationships, recognise harmful ones, and develop their peer mentoring and presentation skills.

Our two-day Healthy Relationships project is suitable for one class of students from Years 7-11, and concludes by creating a performance or presentation to share key learnings with their peers.

What we will achieve

  • Identifying what makes a relationship healthy and unhealthy
  • Recognising the early warning signs (‘red flags’) of unhealthy relationships
  • Rehearsing personal boundaries and consent
  • Exploring the importance of equality and respect
  • Increased self-confidence and empathy for others
  • Increased understanding of human rights, with a focus on gender-based violence
  • Awareness of how and where to access support.

What’s the benefit?

Essential and relevant education

Young people aged 16-24 are at the highest risk of experiencing relationship abuse (ONS, 2022). Our projects provide a safe, engaging space to discuss relationships and develop social skills.

Celebrating equality and diversity

All young people deserve respect and care. We work hard to break down stereotypes and inequalities, and dismantle harmful attitudes before they take root.

Safeguarding and support

Every young person should have access to support. We ensure young people can identify what good support looks like and who they can turn to in and out of school.

Tender

It was interesting to see the students apply knowledge, advice and guidance to a context beyond school, where they could identify situations where young people are made vulnerable.

Short on time?

We understand the demands of a busy school schedule. Whilst usually delivered over two days, our Healthy Relationships project can also be delivered over one day, for one class of 25-30 students. This version of the project doesn’t include a sharing session for peers, but is a condensed dose of skills and knowledge building.

How we do it

Drama and the arts have long been recognised as powerful tools for engaging young people in social issues. During our Healthy Relationships projects, participants meet and create characters, experiment with scripts, and share and listen to ideas. This helps them rehearse for real life, learn from mistakes and discover boundaries in a safe, fun and creative way.
