Carlton Bolling

Olivia Colman with two students at Carlton Bolling College

Based in Bradford, Carlton Bolling is an incredible school which has worked with us since 2021. One of the early projects we delivered for them was our two-day Healthy Relationships Project, which supports young people to learn about:

  • Healthy and unhealthy relationships
  • The early warning signs of abuse
  • How to seek or signpost for support if they or a friend encounter abuse.

Schools are notoriously busy environments, however our Tender North team were so impressed by how the school’s Head of PSHE and Headteacher went to great lengths to be present in our workshops, check in with young people taking part, and continually encourage them.

Students who may have had issues with behaviour previously have had no problems since participating and seem to be striving to be role models for others.

During the project, we saw students vastly develop their confidence: speaking up more often, requesting more leadership opportunities and striving to be the role models they had witnessed in the adults around them. In placing a visible value on our work, Carlton Bolling College created a space where students can feel confident to speak out and discuss these issues without fear: the most vital step on the road to ending abuse.

‘I have learnt that not all relationships are healthy and some people are really horrible to their partners. I want to be a boy and a man that treats girls and women well.’ – Year 8 Student, Carlton Bolling

After delivering our 2-day project, the Head of PSHE told us:

‘Students gained an incredible level of maturity in discussing difficult topics from their participation. They also developed their confidence vastly, with even the least confident students requesting more opportunities to practise public speaking and performing after the workshop finished. Students who may have had issues with behaviour previously have had no problems since participating and seem to be striving to be role models for others.’

I cannot believe the change I’ve seen in some of the students who worked with us after only two days.’

The school has since enrolled in our RE:SET Programme.
