Celebrating healthy relationships champions: meet the Tender Award 2025 winners

In an evening filled with inspiration and celebration, we gathered in joy at the Tender Awards 2025 to honour the students, teachers, youth workers, schools and universities who have shown incredible commitment to promoting healthy relationships and ending domestic abuse and sexual violence.

From young ambassadors to champions for safer schools, each award recipient has helped shape a future rooted in respect, empathy, and connection. Meet some of our incredible winners and discover the difference they’re making.

RE:SET Universities Completion Award

Bath Spa University and the University of East Anglia were awarded the RE:SET Universities Completion Award, presented by Tiernan Brady, Global Director of Diversity and Inclusion at Clifford Chance LLP. Both institutions completed Tender’s one-year programme to create a healthier campus culture by educating staff and students to recognise unacceptable behaviour, call it out, and ensure there are robust reporting routes if it does happen.  

Outstanding Specialist Setting Award

John Chilton School in Ealing was presented with the Outstanding Specialist Setting Award from renowned writer and Adolescence co-creator Jack Thorne. During and after their participation in Tender’s one-year RE:SET programme, the school went above and beyond, providing an example for other specialist settings to be creative and bold in their efforts to prevent abuse and protect and support their students.

Outstanding Creative Response Award

Historian and broadcaster, Dan Snow presented teachers Sean and Sophie from Thomas Fairchild Primary School in Hackney, who accepted it on behalf of their students. After learning about healthy friendships with Tender, the students created a series of resources and posters with mindfulness activities, breathing exercises, word-searches and colouring-in, to help their fellow students feel calmer at school. These activities have been placed in every Year 4, 5 and 6 classrooms at the school.

Outstanding Primary Teacher Award

Assistant Headteacher at Harehills Primary School, Catherine McMullen was awarded Tender’s Outstanding Primary Teacher Award. Presented by former Chief Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service, Nazir Azfal OBE, Catherine was recognised for her long time support for healthy relationship education, ensuring no child in her care experiences barriers to learning and encouraging warmth and empathy in all staff at Harehills.

Outstanding Primary School Award

Holy Cross Roman Catholic Primary School received their award from Jess Phillips MP for their ongoing commitment to healthy relationships education. Following active participation in Tender’s one-year RE:SET programme, the school appointed student Healthy Relationships Ambassadors who continue to share their learning with new cohorts of students. The school also took part in filming with CBS News, helping promote Tender’s work and mission across the pond!

Peer Advocates Award

Jess Phillips MP also presented students from Woodland High School with Tender’s Peer Advocates Award. During Tender’s 5-week programme with the school, Maeel and James showed incredible enthusiasm, encouraging others to get involved by championing and supporting their peers. They also created a script called ‘In the Park’, which they performed to their fellow students to encourage them to be kind and considerate in all their relationships.

Winners of the #LoveLooksLike photography competition

Students from Brentwood School, Essex have received special awards from star of Netflix’s You, Amy-Leigh Hickman. In February, school students across the UK were invited to submit creative photographs of what #LoveLooksLike for Tender’s Valentine’s Day campaign. Amy-Leigh joined a judging panel who selected Zac and Fraser’s winning image from a wide range of wonderful entries. As competition winners, Zac and Fraser were invited to join the Tender Awards 2025 to receive a special print of their photo.

Healthy Relationships Ambassador Award

Dr Who star Jodie Whittaker presented students from Leeds City Academy with Tender’s Healthy Relationships Ambassador Award. Taking part in Tender’s relationships education, the school’s diverse students listened to one another, considered different viewpoints and reflected on their own perspectives. Several also supported Tender in spotlighting the charity’s work in West Yorkshire, presenting to a room full of professionals with eloquence, clarity and authenticity.

Outstanding Youth Worker Award

Jodie also presented Babs McPhail with the Outstanding Youth Worker Award in celebration of her support for Tender’s work with Youth Connect in Whiteway. She and her team have supported Tender’s workshop leaders brilliantly, making them feel like part of the team and always looking for ways to connect Tender’s healthy relationships content with activities the young people enjoy.

Outstanding Secondary School Teacher

Elisa Kenton-Howells from Cambourne Village College was recognised for her passion and commitment to her students and their healthy relationships education. She received her award from Olivia Colman, patron of Tender for more than a decade.

Following Tender’s Healthy Relationships projects at her school, Elisa supported students to become Healthy Relationships Ambassadors and spread their learnings throughout the school. The group of five students – Aly, Ethan, Katrina, Niven and Tanya – who accompanied Elisa to the awards.

Positive Masculinity Award

Tender Patron Olivia Colman also invited to the stage to celebrate Acle Academy and St William’s Primary School for their demonstrable commitment to ‘Positive Masculinity’. Following a rise in negative male online influencers, the schools worked together to develop a mentoring initiative in which the young men of the secondary school mentor the boys of the primary school football team, looking at positive role models and developing a school wide competition to involve other students in the discussion.
